What started out as a personal project ended up becoming one of the freshest casual fashion brands in Namibia. It all started with the creation of a unique brand identity inspired by an iconic tree found in the south of the country. With the market already being saturated, it was clear that the brand needed to be positioned as not simply “just another tourist brand” but rather create a brand that speaks to a broad range of fashion conscious- and young at heart audience – but most importantly, proud Namibians.
Being one of the least populated country on earth, Namibia is an extremely proud nation featuring people with a diverse heritage and many cultures. After the initial 8 t-shirt and 4 phone cover designs, further explorations were made with unique cap and flip-flop sandal designs. A very important role for the development of the brand was consumer feedback and customer interaction, with a campaign almost solely relying on social media for all promotions, competitions, announcements and sales.
Conventional African fashion usually depicts wild patterns, a substantial clash of bright colours and shapes and figures in all forms. While this type of design holds its own in the fashion world, we aimed to create reduced, minimal artwork playing on Namibian locations, themes and traditions, such as the culture of tribal kings and queens depicting a lion/lioness in our desert kings/queens designs.
By creating awareness using only social media and word of mouth, an ever growing following of brand-loyal customers was generated. What started off humbly, selling at local markets and smaller events, evolved into an easy to use online shop (see video below) and a year later saw the opening of it’s first retail space at a local shopping mall in Windhoek.
Our social media campaigns involved competitions, games and riddles to promote awareness, share news, feature customer photos and introduce new designs and brand developments. The slogan “share the pride” was created to further solidify the brand identity and it’s proudly Namibian mantra.
One of the riddles created as part of a fun Instagram promotional campaign. This set of 10 riddles was aimed at Namibwear followers stuck at home during the COVID19 lockdown duration.
